OEC Emerging Leaders Program is seeking its 2020 Emerging Leaders Council!

In 2019, the inaugural class of the Emerging Leaders Council was formed, and spent the year working to lead the program and create change in their communities by planning and executing three program events over the course of the year. This is your opportunity to be a part of the second annual class of the Emerging Leaders Council!

TO APPLY, GO HERE: bit.ly/elcouncil

Being a member of the Emerging Leaders Council is a year-long volunteer commitment. This experience will equip you with the skills and training to put your leadership in action for a better environment and a stronger community. Council members focus on three strategies to create change: service, advocacy, and fundraising. Through skills training, collaborative teamwork, building partnerships, and project planning, this Council will plan and execute three events for other emerging young professionals throughout 2020. Each event will have a different strategic focus: the first around service, the second advocacy, and the final around grassroots fundraising.

This volunteer program is intended for young professionals aged 18-40 of various experience levels. Whether you’re a student looking to get your first experience in the environmental world under your belt, or a professional rounding out the skills that will take your career to the next level, this program is for you!

DEADLINE & IMPORTANT DATES
Applications are due by midnight on Monday, February 3, 2020. Selected applicants will be interviewed in early February, with final decisions made by mid-month. Those who are selected to join the Emerging Leaders Council will be expected to attend an orientation retreat on Saturday, February 22/Sunday, February 23.

HISTORY
The Ohio Environmental Council is Ohio’s oldest and most respected environmental advocacy organization. Founded in 1969, the OEC has worked for decades to protect air, land, and water for all who call Ohio home. In 2017, several young OEC staff recognized a community need for an environmental network to bring together young professionals. The Emerging Leaders program was formed and began holding monthly events as a platform for members to connect and learn.

By engaging and educating members from all experience levels and diverse backgrounds, Emerging Leaders empower each other to take action and become the next generation of environmental champions. We aim to increase our reach and impact every month by living into our values:

[ Action ] Enable a new generation of environmental champions to work toward solutions on pressing environmental issues.

[ Equity & Accessibility ] Acknowledge historical and systemic factors that contribute to environmental challenges by making inclusion a priority.

[ Influence ] Provide resources to help young leaders discover their individual power and voice to make the greatest impact in the environmental movement.

[ Community ] Create a platform for members to connect, collaborate, and build power together.

JUSTICE & EQUITY STATEMENT
The OEC Emerging Leaders is committed to building a more powerful conservation movement that is diverse, inclusive, and reflects the communities we live and work in. Applicants from all cultures, races, ethnicities, political affiliations, and other identities, especially those who have been traditionally marginalized in or by the environmental movement, are strongly encouraged to apply. If you require any assistance or accommodations to complete this application we are happy to help! For questions related to this application or to request accommodations, please contact Alaina McCleery at amccleery@theoec.org or (614) 487-5821.
