Let's Make Biking Work!

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

For this EPN Breakfast program, we are excited to partner with MORPC and Yay Bikes! to explore the regional vision and strategic efforts underway to improve bicycle commuting and to link biking with a variety of urban transit options, including bus, greenway, pedestrian, and other transportation systems. Our speakers will discuss the critical role that infrastructure plays in people’s willingness to try and consistently use a bike for transportation. Bike technicians from Paradise Garage will be on hand during this program's networking session to provide winter weatherization consultation and help you have a comfortable commute to and from work in the upcoming seasons!

SPEAKERS

Gabby Reissland JD, RN, CHC, board member, Yay Bikes! and member, Columbus Chapter of Black Girls Do Bike and Major Taylors Cycling Club

Gabby Reissland is a retired lawyer and compliance director who has found biking in her retirement years as the way to commute, socialize and exercise. She believes when she is biking she is at her ultimate state giving her the opportunity to use her five senses during her adventures. In her spare time, she works as a nurse and enjoys home crafts. Reissland received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Juris Doctor degree from Capital University and a Graduate Certificate in Compliance from George Washington University.

 

Kerstin Carr, PhD, director of planning & environment, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission

Kerstin Carr is the director of Planning & Environment at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) in Columbus, Ohio and has been with MORPC for over twelve years. Her department provides and promotes collaboration, technical assistance, and regional planning initiatives related to active transportation, the natural and built environment, transportation safety, and water resources to benefit MORPC members and communities in Central Ohio. Carr has over 18 years of experience in transportation and urban planning. She currently serves as a board member on the Neighborhood Design Center, the Scenario Planning Consortium of the National Association of Regional Councils, and the Community Economic Development Corporation of Ohio (CEDCO). Carr is a graduate of the University of Regensburg, Germany with a Doctoral Degree in Geography.

 

Catherine Girves, executive director, Yay Bikes!

Catherine Girveshas served as the executive director of Yay Bikes! for over five years. She works to promote bicycling as an alternative to driving, and to create opportunities for personal and community transformation through innovative campaigns and unconventional partnerships. She’s been actively involved in many local and regional associations, including the Downtown Residents Association of Columbus, as a Stakeholder Group Representative for Connect Columbus, and as a member of the MidOhio Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation Community Advisory Council. She’s served on the Mayor of Columbus’s Green Team and on the Blueprint Columbus Community Advisory Panel. Girvesis a graduate of The Ohio State University with degrees in Business Administration and Political Science.
